A few beautiful things…

It’s Monday morning, the sun is shining, I slept well and I have an extraordinarily exciting week ahead. I am happy.

I am also much more aware, these days, of these moments of happiness. I hold on to them with both hands, because I know that they can be fleeting, and that’s okay… ‘This too will pass’ is supposed to be advice for happy and sad things, isn’t it? Here are a few beautiful things I wanted to share with you.

I’m listening to this on repeat lately: it is so, so lovely.

The fourth movement is a little noisy, but the other movements are just impossibly beautiful, and so wonderful to listen to while working. I end up humming them all day long.

In the last week, I’ve celebrated the engagement of a dear friend, the birth of another dear friend’s baby, and the happy happy news that two other dear friends are pregnant. I remember reading somewhere (when I was much younger) that joy shared is joy doubled, and sorrow shared is sorrow halved. I think that’s so true… I am really filled with joy at the happy news and sharing sadnesses seems to take the edge off them.

I have a really exciting week ahead, including doing a new diabetes talk I’ve just written: ‘A happy life with diabetes (what I’ve learnt from a decade of Type 1 diabetes)’. As luck or chance or synchronicity would have it, I’m doing this talk for the first time on Thursday 12th October 2017 – exactly 10 years to the day since I was diagnosed. I wrote the talk sitting by a stream in Kirstenbosch Gardens… A stunning little spot. And as I’ve gathered images from the last 10 years, I’ve been filled with such gratitude for all I’ve been able to experience because of and in spite of diabetes.

Here’s to a wonderful week ahead. I wonder what delightful things are going to happen?
