5 days in the wild

5 days in the wild

Well that was an extraordinary experience ✨

We’ve been back from the wilderness for a week, and it’s difficult to put into words quite how magical and profound and otherworldly our trail was.

5 days in the wild with no other people, no civilization, no screens, no responsibilities, nothing to do except walk and soak up the stillness and be present. And, you know, pitch tents and chop vegetables and do night watch.

I was uncertain about night watch because I really love my sleep, but it was one of the most wonderful parts of the trail. An hour or two in the middle of the night, completely alone, with nothing but a torch to check that no wild animals were coming near. Absolute stillness.

I took ‘Meditations’ by Marcus Aurelius with, and it was the perfect companion. Succinct, thought-provoking, beautifully written Stoic advice on life.

It was such a rare treat to have body and mind totally in sync. Nothing else to think about or plan for or organise. Right here, right now.

A sharp contrast to the madness of the last week, but more on that later!

For now, let me extend the invitation to anyone this vaguely interests to check out @wilderness_leadership_school. It’s an extraordinary experience.
