National Grief Awareness Day

Tomorrow is National Grief Awareness Day. It’s South Africa’s first time commemorating the day, though it’s well established overseas.

I know awareness days can seem a little trite, but the one thing they do – beautifully – is bring conversation topics into the spotlight.

And we really need to be talking about grief more… in an open-hearted, honest way. The more we can talk about it, the more we can normalise that it’s not something that happens and then we get over it. When we grieve, we are in it for the long haul. Our lives are never the same again…

Our ask for tomorrow is simple: let’s talk about grief. Let’s bring this hard topic into the light and have some authentic conversations about it. Part of that, of course, happens on social media – if you feel comfortable, please share this graphic so that others can know that they’re not alone in their grief journey.

We are all in this together… This messy journey of loving, and losing those we love ❤️
