This was pretty much my whole weekend. And it was *so fun*. I started reading on Friday just before bed, and finished the book now, and if I say I grinned my way through three-quarters of it, that’s not an exaggeration. I also laughed out loud not once but twice (!) and the one paragraph made me laugh so hard I was weeping… just before bed last night. Not the most soothing way to end the day but definitely one of the most delicious! No book has ever made me laugh till I cried.
That said, it is a Curtis Sittenfeld, and she’s the only author whose book I finished and immediately started reading again (Eligible).
This is a pandemic novel, but vastly different to Lucy By The Sea, the other pandemic novel I read recently… I think it’s fascinating that we’re now far enough away from COVID that we can reflect on it in fiction, and I am so deeply grateful for that.
I didn’t only read this weekend, of course… I also had a delicious dinner with friends (tofu! Delicious! Remarkable!) and a lovely breakfast with my husband, baked with my kids and did some writing, went for a hike with my besties and had a tea party and Guinea pig cuddling session with my brothers and their kids…
All in all, a weekend crammed with slices of joy, made all the sweeter because I kept stealing off to read voraciously any chance I got.
God I love reading.
