I read a productivity book many years ago (the title and author are forgotten, I’m afraid). One tip stood out for me, and I’ve used it ever since…
The tip was this: all the little things that snag your attention and irritate you each day are siphoning off little bits of energy, focus and productivity. So every once in a while, go around your house and make a list of all the things that need fixing: then fix them.
I can’t tell you what a boost this gives me when I do it! Some things are as simple as putting the books back in rainbow order when they get mixed up, others as thrilling as buying a new soft close toilet seat so I don’t have to touch it every time I put the toilet seat down 🚽.
But they make a difference! It feels like the difference between walking around with a small stone stuck in my shoe vs wearing soft socks. And I get a little thrill when things just work – a little slice of joy in my day.
Give it a go – let me know if it’s just me being OCD or if it’s a real productivity hack…
