My incredibly talented friend, Jessica Fox (@filmfoxwrite) made a film, Stella (@stellathemovie).
And by ‘made’, I mean she came up with the idea, wrote the script, gathered the talented cast and crew, found the location, helped produce it, directed it, worked on the post-production and birthed it into the world. There was nothing, and now there is Stella, and I am in awe.
I was lucky enough to get a sneak preview last year and it made me weep… It’s a beautiful, lyrical film that draws on Jess’s heritage (her grandmother was a Holocaust survivor) and marries it to her passions (fairytales, wild Scottish landscapes, finding your own direction in life). Stella is a Jewish retelling of Cinderella, but in the most fascinating, multi-layered way…
If you’re lucky enough to be in the UK, you can watch it for free on STV (https://player.stv.tv/summary/stella-films). The rest of us will have to wait a little longer!
It is such a rare and precious thing to watch someone you have known for over 20 years step into their power. I’ll say it again: I am in awe. 💫
