Celebrating the birthday of someone who has died

It’s my mom’s birthday today.

What does one do with the birthday of a loved one who has died? I don’t know, to be honest. Especially because it’s 3 weeks (to the day) since she died, so I feel I’ve marked that. And 3 days after my son’s birthday, so I have been pretty much nonstop eating birthday cake, and don’t feel more cake is the answer (impossible, but true!)

So I lit the candle that’s usually in front of her photo, and brought it with me to my desk, where it has burned all day long – keeping me company. Kept her close to my thoughts. Sent a little extra love into the Great Beyond. Gave my kids some extra cuddles.

What about you? Any suggestions for how to mark a loved one’s birthday when they’re no longer here? ❤️
