I have had this picture saved on my computer (in a folder called ‘Lovely’) since way before Instagram quotes were a thing.
And even though we’re now knee deep in inspiring quotes on quirky backgrounds, I still find the question relevant: What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
I have had an intensely busy work week – waking up early to work for an hour before the kids get up, cross-eyed by 9pm because of the task switching. But oh! How lucky am I to be living this one wild and precious life doing the work I’m doing.
There are two big projects this week has been consumed by:
- Working on the 2022 Diabetes Journal with Sweet Life for Abbott – all about diabetes and behaviour change and little hacks to make life with diabetes easier (what could be better?)
- And starting to plan the inaugural South African Diabetes Summit with the Diabetes Alliance. We’re going to get all the necessary stakeholders together to create a Diabetes Strategy / Action Plan for SA, and it is thrilling work.
How lucky am I that this is what I get to do with my one wild and precious life?
A caveat: I am 39, and have been slowly making my way towards meaningful work for years. There were many years when this quote just kind of bummed me out, so if that’s where you are right now – I see you. Just keep on keeping on and listening for the little whispers that keep you moving in the direction you want to go in
